Perthβs Award Winning
Beachside Market-Place
Founded in 2016 as a social enterprise in Perth, the Summer X Salt Markets began with a vision to promote local, conscious creatives, artisans, and small businesses dedicated to ocean sustainability.
Today, Summer X Salt is celebrated as Perthβs award-winning beachside marketplace, a vibrant platform that fosters positive growth in the creative coastal community while working towards a more sustainable future. Held on Whadjuk country, Boorloo, the markets take place every summer from October to March at Clarko Reserve, Trigg in Perth, WA.
What we offer
Each beachside market showcases a carefully curated lineup of surf and salty-inspired artists and designers, live music, and food and drink trucks β all within walking distance to the beach! Visitors can also enjoy free kids’ workshops, community yoga, pilates, and meditation sessions at every event, along with pop-up ice baths, beach cleanups, morning swims, and more.
In 2024, we are excited to launch Mini Makers, an initiative designed to support young entrepreneurs aged 6-16, giving them a platform to showcase their creativity and business acumen within our community.
Supporting
young talent
We are deeply committed to supporting young and emerging musicians aged between 12-25 years, helping them gain the experience and confidence to perform in front of large audiences.
Summer X Salt has acted as a launch pad for talented artists, including Australian Idol singers Sam McGovern and Angelina Curtis, as well as the now internationally touring Mitch Santiago.
Our achievements
Supporting our community
Since 2016, Summer X Salt has been a launchpad for over 2,500 emerging small businesses and creative makers, helping them to grow and thrive. Each year, we support around 250 small, creative West Australian businesses, and market-goers spend over $1 million annually supporting these local and independent creative enterprises.
In 2018, we introduced the βSalty Startupβ Grant, offering financial support in the form of a market stall, along with ongoing business and brand mentorship. In 2019, we hosted our first-ever sellout βSALTY NIGHTSβ Outdoor Movie Night, raising over $10k for Bushfire Relief funds.
With over 50,000 visitors each year, our markets have become a beloved part of the Perth community. We are also committed to sustainability, offsetting our emissions with Carbon Positive Australia, which has planted over 6 million trees across the country, including 1,200 trees through our efforts.
Our mission
Our mission is to provide a socially conscious marketplace and an inclusive community for talented local designers, creatives, foodies, and musicians who are passionate about making a positive impact on the planet.
Our vision
We connect people through coastal culture, impactful events, awareness projects, and immersive experiences to inspire creativity, empower good health, and promote sustainability for a better tomorrow.
How it all started!
Sophie Keate and Mei Wan Yong, co-owners of the Summer X Salt Markets and Salty Folk Inc., met in 2016 over a Gumtree diffuser, having both recently become self-employed marketing consultants.
With backgrounds in marketing, event management, and strategic planning, Sophie and Mei began collaborating on freelance projects and events. After their first coastal summer working together, they decided to take the plunge and self-fund their new project β the Summer X Salt Markets.
Today, Sophie and Mei continue to lead the way in launching community-based activation projects across Perth, working tirelessly to inspire healthier communities through shared experiences.
